ESMĀʿĪL, b. Nūḥ, ABŪ EBRĀHĪM MONTAṢER (d. 1004), last Samanid amir. After the Qarakhanids occupied Bokhara in 389/999, he led several attempts to expel them from Transoxania. See SAMANIDS.
